FAQ
What does RepRap mean?
RepRap is short for replicating rapid prototyper.
The RepRap project started as a British initiative to develop a 3D printer that can print most of its own components and be a low-cost 3D printer, but it is now made up of hundreds of collaborators world wide.
As an open design, all of the designs produced by the project are released under a free software license, the GNU General Public License.
Due to the ability of the machine to make some of its own parts, authors envisioned the possibility of cheap RepRap units, enabling the manufacture of complex products without the need for extensive industrial infrastructure. They intended for the RepRap to demonstrate evolution in this process as well as for it to increase in number exponentially. A preliminary study claimed that using RepRaps to print common products results in economic savings.
What does FDM mean?
Fused deposition modeling (FDM) is an additive manufacturing technology commonly used for modeling, prototyping, and production applications. It is one of the techniques used for 3D printing.
FDM works on an "additive" principle by laying down material in layers; a plastic filament or metal wire is unwound from a coil and supplies material to produce a part.
The technology was developed by S. Scott Crump in the late 1980s and was commercialized in 1990. The term fused deposition modeling and its abbreviation to FDM are trademarked by Stratasys Inc. The exactly equivalent term, fused filament fabrication (FFF), was coined by the members of the RepRap project to give a phrase that would be legally unconstrained in its use. It is also sometimes called Plastic Jet Printing (PJP).
What does Prusa i3 mean?
The Prusa i3 (iteration 3) is the newest and most current 3D Printer design by RepRap Core Developer Prusajr. The i3 incorporates lessons learned from the previous two Prusa designs, as well as other popular modern RepRap designs
What is Repetier-Host?
The Repetier-Host is a simple to use host software, which is be compatible with most firmwares around. You can add and position your STL files on the simulated printbed and slice them all together. For slicing you can use the built-in Slic3r slicer or use the well-known Skeinforge. Just call "Slice & Load" and the job gets delegated to the current slicer, showing its output in the log window.
In the G-Code editor you can change or analyze your code. To help you a short description of the current code is shown below the editor.
The host runs on Windows XP or higher, Linux, and Mac OS X.
Why there is no manual inside the box when I received the printer?
Becaue we usually ship the printers to customers by express, with aim to reduce the grosss weight, so as to reduce the express fee for the cusotmers, we would remove the manual but save the e-maual in a SD card, and put this SD card in the box. Also, some other stuff, such as free software, the customer may use, would also saved in this SD card.
Do you have FAQ?
Yes, there is a FAQ list refer to printing quality issues, saved in the SD card, inside the box, coming together with the printer kit.
